Optical Wireless Integrated Circuits, OWICs, continue to make headlines after publication in PNAS in April 2020. The paper “Microscopic Sensors using Optical Wireless Integrated Circuits" first authored by Alejandro J. Cortese, details an up and coming microscopic technology platform developed during his time in the McEuen group. The platform was presented in a Ted Talk given by Paul McEuen in November 2020, and recently featured in an article by Nanowerk: https://www.nanowerk.com/nanotechnology-news2/newsid=54965.php.
A new company, OWiC Technologies, was born from the research with co-founders Alejandro Cortese, Paul McEuen, and Alyosha Molnar. The new company recently competed in Cornell's BenDaniel Venture Challenge, a 'pitch deck' competition with other Cornell company startups, and won first place!
